Day 2: 7th December 2011 Venice, Italy
Breathe in the romance and Italian exuberance of this spellbinding city. Explore its mysterious and watery streets. From the Gothic arches of the Doges Palace to the intricate façade of St. Marks Cathedral, a day in Venice is bound to enchant you.
Day 3: 8th December 2011 Koper, Croatia
Day 4: 9th December 2011 Hvar
Its easy to see why Hvar is such a popular town on this beautiful Dalmatian Riviera island, where terracotta tiled houses cling to the lush hillside rising from the pretty yacht-filled harbour.
Day 5: 10th December 2011 Bari
Located on the Adriatic Sea, the ancient Italian capital of Bari has often been neglected by visitors, but this atmospheric and architecturally adorned city is a little gem that embraces a rich cosmopolitan past. Many civilisations have left their mark and many cultures are still represented, from Byzantine and Arabic to Gothic and Greek.
Day 6: 11th December 2011 At Sea
Day 7: 12th December 2011 Katakolon, Greece
A small port on the west coast of the Peloponnese, Katakolon's prime importance is its proximity to the ancient site of Olympia. Here, long before the birth of Jesus, you would have found one of the richest, most beautiful and most highly civilised places the world had ever seen and the original site of the earliest Olympic Games.
Day 8: 13th December 2011 Nauplia, Greece
Nauplia boasts the building where Greece's first-ever parliament sat a mosque near Syntagma (Constitution Square) as well as a range of other impressive historic buildings. It also has a lively town centre full of bars, cafes and restaurants. And most sites are within walking distance, apart from the island castle, which is only a short boat trip away.
Day 9: 14th December 2011 At Sea
Day 10: 15th December 2011 Istanbul, Turkey
With its skyline aglow with the glimmer of domes and minarets, arriving in Istanbul is an unforgettable experience. The labyrinth of streets. Bustling bazaars. The serenity of the surrounding waters. This city offers one intriguing adventure after another. Explore Istanbul's most famous monuments, from the Hippodrome to the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and the old city walls. Its sheer size, wealth and beauty await you.
Day 11: 16th December 2011 Mytilene, Greece
Ah, the Greek islands to a T'! You'll find a fishing fleet in the glittering harbour and, consequently, a plethora of excellent local restaurants. There are fine mosaics in the local museum, a fabulous and ancient open air theatre and one or two rather lovely beaches.
Day 12: 17th December 2011 Kusadasi
Now a popular Turkish cruise port, Kusadasi was once a sleepy fishing village until the extraordinary ruins of the ancient city of Ephesus were discovered nearby. Rivalling Pompeii, these are a must-see but try to find the time to explore pretty Kusadasi and discover Kaleici, its charming old quarter, which lies close to the cruise port.
Day 13: 18th December 2011 Rhodes, Greece
Rhodes is an island with history in abundance. Years ago, this is where the mighty Colossus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, bestrode the entrance to the pretty harbour. Since then, Roman and Moor, Venetian and Persian, Turk and Greek have controlled the island. Now, understandably, it has a cosmopolitan feel. Visit the soaring Acropolis at Lindos. Stroll the medieval old town. Explore the Palace of the Grand Masters. Or simply relax on one of its many beautiful beaches.
Day 14: 19th December 2011 Santorini
Day 15: 20th December 2011 Piraeus,Athens
The Acropolis High City' - will always be the top attraction from Athens' cruise port Piraeus. With its 2,500-year-old Parthenon, temple to Poseidon and Athena, Odeon of Herodus Atticus and Theatre of Dionysus, it quite literally stands out as an oasis of calm in the frenetic Greek capital. As part of the major revamp the city had for the 2004 Olympics, 400 modern buildings were cleared from the ancient meeting place next to the Acropolis, the Agora, which was then restored and linked by walkways to the Acropolis, Hadrian's Arch, the Academy of Plato and the Monastery of Daphne. Other nearby ancient sites include the Roman Tower of the Winds and the Hill of the Muses where Socrates is said to have drunk hemlock. Below the Acropolis is the fun place to shop or barter, eat moussaka or Greek salad, drink wine or ouzo and, of course, to people-watch: the 3,000-year-old Plaka.
