VOYAGE HIGHLIGHTS

Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires combines the laid-back ambience of a European capital with the fiery passion of a Latin-American barrio, a combination that makes a Buenos Aires holiday irresistible to most. Enjoy the picture-postcard beaches, delectable shops, stunning weather, colourful neighbourhoods and arguably the best nightlife in the world. As sophisticated as any European city, with its wide avenues, fine colonial architecture and rows of pavement cafes, the city was built by French, Italian and Spanish immigrants – and the influences are everywhere, you could easily believe you were walking through Milan or Paris!

Barbados
Barbados, the pearl of the Caribbean, is the eastern-most Caribbean island. It is actually an enormous and ancient coral reef that was formed approximately one million years ago. The island is a pear-shaped, 20-mile (32km) stretch of soft coral, which is permeated by water and over time has formed fascinating underground caverns. It has been dubbed 'the real fantasy island', an appellation that points to its exotic resorts and glorious beaches. It enjoys 340 days of sunshine a year, numerous well-developed amenities, a rich and varied nightlife and friendly inhabitants, making it one of the most memorable ports of call on this magnificent voyage.

Half Moon Cay
A Caribbean island exclusively for cruisers of the Carnival group, Half Moon Cay has been rated as “Best Private Island” by Porthole Cruise Magazine for the past four years. The beauty and serenity of Half Moon Cay is second to none. Go horseback riding on the sand and surf, snorkel with stingrays in the crystal clear waters, hike a nature trail or simply relax in an air-conditioned, private beachfront cabana. A sanctuary for birds and wildlife, the Carnival group has taken great strides to retain the islands unique ecosystem and Caribbean charm, but there is plenty to do and see while still feeling like you’re on a deserted island!

Day 1: 13th January 2012 Southampton, UK

Day 5: 17th January 2012 Madeira, Portugal

The largest of the Portuguese islands in the Madeiran archipelago, Madeira offers a wealth of sites of historical interest, marvellous fish cuisine and, of course, its own famous Madeira wine. Unusually, Madeira has no sandy beaches, but it does offer the visitors wonderful walks, not only through its towns, but through its mountains and hills.

Day 12: 24th January 2012 Barbados, Caribbean Islands

Barbados is the most British of the Caribbean islands, where cricket is the national passion and afternoon tea a tradition. Yet the flawless skies, lilting rhythms of both speech and calypso and the endless beaches all provide vivid reminders that you are a long way from home. Enjoy a stroll around Bridgetown, the capital which boasts impressive colonial architecture and take a snap of what used to be known as Trafalgar Square.

Day 13: 25th January 2012 Grenada

90 miles north of Trinidad and 68 miles south-west of St. Vincent, Grenada is one of the most attractive and unspoilt of the Windward Islands. On this, the ‘Spice Island', exports of vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and mace don't just support the economy: they also perfume the air.

Day 15: 27th January 2012 Georgetown, Guyana

Day 16: 28th January 2012 Georgetown, Guyana

Day 19: 31st January 2012 Santarem, Brazil

500 miles up the Amazon, American Confederates fleeing the Civil War originally settled in Santarem: even today, O’Malley and Higgins are common surnames!

Day 20: 1st February 2012 Parintins, Brazil

At the centre of millions of miles of rain forest, halfway between Santarém and Manaus, on the right bank of the Amazon River, is the small town of Parintins. Although there are no roads to Parintins (you either have to sail or fly there) it has become the unlikely centre of the second largest festival in Brazil – the Boi Bumba. These fabulous celebrations are held every year at the end of June.

Day 21: 2nd February 2012 Manaus, Brazil

New York was built on granite, London on clay. But Manaus was built on rubber. As the furthest navigable port on the Amazon, some 1,000 miles from the ocean, the city sprang up as a centre for rubber exports from the Brazilian plantations and became a focal point for trade.

Day 22: 3rd February 2012 Manaus, Brazil

New York was built on granite, London on clay. But Manaus was built on rubber. As the furthest navigable port on the Amazon, some 1,000 miles from the ocean, the city sprang up as a centre for rubber exports from the Brazilian plantations and became a focal point for trade.

Day 23: 4th February 2012 Alta do Chao

Not far from Santarem, situated along the Amazon, is the beach river resort of Alta do Chao. A beautiful bay in the Rio Tapajós, it is overlooked by two hills, one the shape of a church altar, giving the place its name. Fringed by pristine white sand beaches, which are lapped by deep blue waters, it has an almost Mediterranean appearance.

Day 27: 8th February 2012 Fortaleza, Brazil

With a special mixture of the past, present and future, Fortaleza lies at the mouth of the Pajeu River. Attractions keep a hold firmly on the past with squares, monuments and churches all telling of a colonial history dating back to 1612. Developed around the ancient fortress of Our Lady of Assumption (Fortaleza Nossa Senhora de Assuncao), there's much to do in the old centre, where you can visit museums or bargain in the market for embroidery, lace and other local handicrafts.

Day 29: 10th February 2012 Recife, Brazil

Day 31: 12th February 2012 Salvador, Brazil

Day 33: 14th February 2012 Buzios

Day 34: 15th February 2012 Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The local Cariocas are carefree and exuberant people, spending their days along the sands of Copacabana, Ipanema or any of a dozen less famous but equally fantastic beaches and their nights in one of the countless samba bars. For an unforgettable view of the splendour of Rio de Janeiro, take the cable car to stand at the feet of Christ atop lofty Corcovado and witness Sugar Loaf Mountain.

Day 37: 18th February 2012 Montevideo, Uruguay

Just across the Rio de la Plata from Buenos Aires, Montevideo could hardly be more different. Here the pace is sedate, the architecture perfectly preserved Colonial Spanish and the city itself something of a split personality. Around Plaza Constitucion, ministries and palaces signify the city's role as Uruguay's capital. But along the coast stretch miles and miles of flawless beaches, displaying a fun-loving resort quality that's just delightful.

Day 38: 19th February 2012 Buenos Aires, Argentina

Welcome to Buenos Aires! Perhaps you'll stroll the world's widest avenue, witness passionate tango dancing in the Bohemian quarter, enjoy a glass of wine or visit one of the many superb museums. With an overnight stay here, you'll have plenty of time to do all this and more.

Day 39: 20th February 2012 Buenos Aires, Argentina

Welcome to Buenos Aires! Perhaps you'll stroll the world's widest avenue, witness passionate tango dancing in the Bohemian quarter, enjoy a glass of wine or visit one of the many superb museums. With an overnight stay here, you'll have plenty of time to do all this and more.

Day 42: 23rd February 2012 Puerto Madryn, Argentina

Puerto Madryn sits on the shore of Golfo Nuevo and is an attractive little town, where Viscount Madryn founded a colony in 1880. Further afield, Welsh immigrants established Trelew town and populated the verdant Chubut River Valley.

Day 44: 25th February 2012 Port Stanley, Falkland Islands

The capital of the remote Falkland Islands, Port Stanley, is little more than a village, but a truly historic and welcoming one. You'll be urged to sign the visitors' register outside the Government House before seeing the tributes to our war heroes in Christ Church Cathedral.

Day 45: 26th February 2012 Cruise around Cape Horn

Rounding the Cape is one of the great ocean-going experiences. This was the most arduous and exacting sea lane in the world until it was supplanted by the Panama Canal: but it still remains scenically spectacular even today.

Day 46: 27th February 2012 Ushuaia, Argentina

Although only a small part of Argentina, Ushuaia has fast become the gateway to some of the world's last great wilderness areas. Surrounded by magnificent mountains, it has been a whaling station and penal colony in its time. Today, however, it has assumed a more welcoming role as a jumping off point for the most adventurous travellers on earth – like you for instance!

Day 47: 28th February 2012 Punta Arenas, Chile

Punta Arenas overlooks the Strait of Magellan to Tierra del Fuego – the most southerly point of land before you reach Antarctica. Kiss the toe of the Indian on the Magellan monument in Playa del Armas and local legend says you'll return to this spectacular place. Head to Otway Bay for a visit to a penguin colony, or take a trip of lifetime flightseeing over the Antarctic Peninsula.

Day 48: 29th February 2012 Cruise by Amalia Glacier

Day 49: 1st March 2012 Cruise by PIO X Glacier

Day 51: 3rd March 2012 Chacabuco, Chile

South of Puerto Montt in the Chilean fjords, Chacabuco is the site of a famous victory in the Latin-American wars of independence, when, in 1817, South American patrols defeated Spanish royalists. Today, this busy little port is abuzz with river ferries and local colour and is linked to the old port of Puerto Aisen by the longest suspension bridge in Chile.

Day 52: 4th March 2012 Puerto Montt, Chile

Puerto Montt is the starting point for scenic tours to the lakes and fjords of this little-known but remarkably beautiful section of the Chilean coastline. Waterfalls, mountains and inlets of the sea combine with the lack of development or pollution to give you a series of sparkling vistas.

Day 54: 6th March 2012 Santiago (from Valparaiso), Chile

From Valparaiso, discover Santiago with its fascinating blend of old colonial buildings and bustling new expansion. The people are welcoming, the parks are beautiful and there are plenty of cafes and bars where you can sample the fine Chilean wines or tasty ‘empanada'. Travel up to the summit of the San Cristobal Hill where on a clear day, you'll enjoy magnificent views of the city and the snow-capped peaks of the Andes.

Day 55: 7th March 2012 Coquimbo

Day 57: 9th March 2012 Arica

Day 59: 11th March 2012 Lima

Day 62: 14th March 2012 Manta

Day 64: 16th March 2012 Panama Canal

Day 65: 17th March 2012 Limon, Costa Rica

Drive through Limon's banana plantations to the Rio Danta rain forest or to Cahuita National Park to see the monkeys and racoons that live here.

Day 67: 19th March 2012 Roatan

Roatan is one of the three beautiful Bay islands located off the north coast of Honduras. Set on a coral reef and beholding scenic reserves, botanical gardens and some of the finest beaches in Latin America and the Caribbean, the eco-tourism sector here is blossoming.

Day 68: 20th March 2012 Cozumel, Mexico

The worlds most popular cruise port, Cozumel, is just a small (12 miles long) island off Mexicos Yucatan Peninsula but it has a vibrant, pulsating Latin heart. Everywhere is all action and activity from the music-playing downtown bars, cafés and shops to the watersports on offer from the glorious beaches.

Day 70: 22nd March 2012 New Orleans, USA

The birthplace of jazz, New Orleans is a great ‘Southern Belle' of a city. Enjoy the spectacular Creole cooking, the lacy balconied mansions of Vieux Carre and a ‘steam-wheeler' cruise down the Mississippi to Scarlet O'Hara country.

Day 71: 23rd March 2012 New Orleans, USA

The birthplace of jazz, New Orleans is a great ‘Southern Belle' of a city. Enjoy the spectacular Creole cooking, the lacy balconied mansions of Vieux Carre and a ‘steam-wheeler' cruise down the Mississippi to Scarlet O'Hara country.

Day 73: 25th March 2012 Key West, USA

Key West is the furthermost point south on the US mainland and only 60 miles north of Cuba. Here where bohemians and artists reside in wooden houses amid lush tropical vegetation, is a religion for whom the term "laid back" might have originally been coined.

Day 74: 26th March 2012 Port Everglades

The vibrant metropolitan city and beautiful beach resort of Miami sits on the south coast of the US state of Florida. Boasting sun soaked beaches, superb parks, world-class shopping and stunning skylines it offers a fantastic selection of sights and attractions.

Day 75: 27th March 2012 Nassau, The Bahamas

Although commercialised (this is one of the world'smost popular cruise ports Nassau still has something for everyone. The shopping really is excellent and there are some fine resorts with every modern convenience. But look a little further and you'll find fine colonial architecture and, naturally, some extravagantly lovely beaches.

Day 76: 28th March 2012 Half Moon Cay, Bahamas

Day 83: 4th April 2012 Ponta Delgada, The Azores

Ponta Delgada in the Azores, is a tiny speckle of islands in the Atlantic. The Islands are rurally lovely, their fields separated by hydrangea hedges rather than walls. The twin lakes of Sete Cidades will amaze: one turquoise the other vivid emerald.

Day 86: 7th April 2012 Vigo, Spain

Spain's busiest fishing port, Vigo sits on the rugged west coast of the province of Galicia. Over the centuries, this charming town and its resilient residents have been the target for many naval attacks including a couple from Sir Francis Drake.

Day 88: 9th April 2012 Southampton, UK
